Bard's Lovers Mingle in L.A.'s Stories of the Night Told Over

Into The Woods and "Shrek" combine characters from pre-existing lore, so why not borrow from William Shakespeare? Five pairs of the Bard's lovers will dwell and interact in the Los Angeles premiere of the new comedy Stories of the Night Told Over.
Scott Werve adapts and directs the production for Range View Productions. Performances will begin May 17 at the Hayworth Theatre for a run through June 16. Opening night is slated for May 18.
Using the Bard's lovers — from The Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, As You Like It, Henry IV, and Hamlet — and actual text, Werve weaves a story set in a "curious urban setting," according to notes, where the literary ladies meet "at their favorite neighborhood stoop" while the men hang at a "street corner."
The story unfolds as the women "find that some want love and can't find it, some have love and can't stand it, some vow to woo and win, and others pledge to steer clear of the whole situation." As the men pursue their respective conquests, not all get their way. Throw in some supernatural characters like Puck (A Midsummer Night's Dream) and Ariel (The Tempest) into the mix and the traditional Shakespearean device of mistaken identities.
Filling out the entangled ensemble of characters will be Marianne Ferrari (as Storyteller 1), John Ross Clark (Storyteller 2), Nathan Patrick (Benedick), Nicole Tillman (Beatrice), Kelli Ruttle (Kate), Dan Roach (Petruchio), Amanda Randall (Olivia), Chris Payne (Orsino), Hector Hank (Hotspur), Natasha Pancholi-Khatod (Lady Percy), Gugun Deep Singh (Puck), Elizabeth Hunt (Ariel), Ryan Spahn (Hamlet) and Kellie Matteson (Ophelia).
The design team includes Danny Cistone and Davis Campbell (production/technical directors), Jay Bolton (lighting), Scott Werve (sound) and Abigail Nieto (costume). Marie Wong produces.
