EST to Present One-Act Evening Shatter

By Zachary Pincus-Roth
26 Apr 2007

Ensemble Studio Theatre will present a week of world premiere short plays collectively titled Shatter, written and helmed by its four directors-in-residence, from May 16-22.

Richard Matheson's The Last Day, Justin Quinn Pelegano's adaptation of horror and sci-fi author Richard Matheson's short story, is about "six New Yorkers facing extinction," according to press notes. Mali and the Arc of the Covenant by Andrew Bergh is "an absurdist look at the New York dating scene" and "religious relic thievery."

Antigone Noir is Destiny Lilly's modern film noir musical adaptation of a Sophocles classic. Andre Ford's Eyez Watchin' "tells the story of a distinguished pastor and pillar of the African-American community who attempts to pick up a young hustler well versed in the life of the streets."

All four one-acts will be performed every evening. Performances will be May 16-18 at 8 PM; May 19 at 3 and 8 PM; May 21 and 22 at 8 PM.

William Carden recently took over as EST's producing artistic director, after the death of his predecessor, Curt Dempster.

EST is located at 549 West 52nd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues. Tickets, which are $15, can be purchased at the door or by calling (212) 352-3101. For more information visit www.ensemblestudiotheatre.org.
