My First Time, a Collection of Sexual Awakenings, to Reveal Itself Off-Broadway

By Kenneth Jones
23 May 2007

My First Time, a confessional cluster of stories about first sexual experiences — "loss of virginity" sounds so Eisenhower-era — will get a commercial Off-Broadway run by producer Ken Davenport starting July 12 at New World Stages.

It's billed as "a new play in the style of The Vagina Monologues featuring four actors in hysterical and heartbreaking stories about first sexual experiences written by real people …just like you."

Davenport is behind Off-Broadway's Altar Boyz and The Awesome 80s Prom.

The tales that comprise the show are drawn from a website created in 1998. The site "allowed people to anonymously share their own true stories about their 'First Time.' The website became an instant phenomenon as over 40,000 stories poured in from around the globe that were silly, sweet, absurd, funny, heterosexual, homosexual, awkward, shy, sexy and everything in between."

Casting has yet to be announced.

Performances for the open-ended run will play New World Stages/Stage 5 (340 West 50th Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues). For tickets from as low as $25, call Telecharge.com at (212) 239-6200. For more information and group tickets call (888) MY1-TIME or visit www.MyFirstTimeThePlay.com.

Writer-director Davenport co-conceived and produced Altar Boyz (www.AltarBoyz.com), and created and directed The Awesome 80s Prom (www.Awesome80sProm.com). His Broadway and national tour management credits include My Fair Lady, Grease, Show Boat, Candide, Ragtime, Parade (workshop), Jekyll & Hyde, Chicago, Cinderella, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Gypsy, among others.

A member of the BMI Librettist workshop, he's currently developing a musical version of the film "Somewhere in Time," aiming it for Broadway. For more information, visit www.DavenportTheatrical.com.
