LoveMusik's Liberman to Teach Adam Pascal New Moves in "Goyband" Comedy

By Kenneth Jones
29 May 2007

Erik Liberman

Erik Liberman, the nimble young actor who plays a variety of roles in Broadway's LoveMusik, will appear in the feature film comedy, "Goyband," starring Rent Tony Award nominee Adam Pascal and Golda's Balcony Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh.

Natasha Lyonne ("American Pie," "Die Mommie Die") and Amy Davidson ("8 Simple Rules…") also star.

Liberman inhabits 15 characters in LoveMusik, his Broadway debut. In "Goyband" he will play Marvin, an Orthodox, hip-hop choreographer who helps Pascal's faded boy band singer, Bobby Starr, get his moves back.

Billed as a "gefilte fish-out-of-water-story," the film is produced by Red Sky Pictures, and directed by Christopher Grimm.

According to Internet Movie Database, the picture is in post-production, aiming for a 2007 release, and is written by Dan Bar-Hava, Christopher Grimm and Christa McNamee.

Liberman was a competitor and winner of the Kurt Weill Foundation's Lotte Lenya Competition for Singers. His stage credits include An Evening of Kurt Weill at Lincoln Center; Reefer Madness! (for which he received Theatre LA Ovation and Garland Awards); the L.A. Drama Critics Circle-winning revival of A Clockwork Orange; The Final Tour with Sally Field and Sir John Neville, directed by Moisés Kaufman; The Year Is 1950, helmed by Frank Galati, John Kander, and Ann Reinking; Dumped with Carla Cugino, Dixie Carter, and Louise Fletcher; Sundance Cabaret with Carol Burnett; Icarus with Amanda Plummer; and I Think We're Alone Now with Courtney Love. He also choreographed the Obie winner, Mabou Mines Dollhouse.

Liberman's career began when he starred in PBS's Emmy-winning musical drama, "Sneakers." He also had roles on TV's "Get Real," "Saved by the Bell: The New Class" and "Angel" and more.

The recipient of three grants from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, two from the Henry Mancini Institute, and Def Comedy Jam honors, Liberman co-authored the critically acclaimed "Wisdom from an Empty Mind."
