Anne Bogart Brings Charles L. Mee's Hotel Cassiopeia to BAM's Next Wave Fest

By Ernio Hernandez
31 May 2007

Anne Bogart's SITI Company production of Charles L. Mee's Hotel Cassiopeia will be featured in the Brooklyn Academy of Music's 25th Next Wave Festival.

BAM announced the line-up for its multi-discipline celebration — to run Oct. 2-Dec. 16 — featuring works of theatre as well as dance, music, multimedia, visual art and more.

Hotel Cassiopeia will be among the theatrical presentations that will also include the American premieres of Poland theatre company TR Warszawa's production of Israeli playwright Hanoch Levin's Krum and German director Michael Thalheimer's Thalia Theater production of Frank Wedekind's Lulu. All of the above works will play at BAM's Harvey Theatre, which is located at 651 Fulton Street.

The SITI Company and director Anne Bogart return to the festival with another Mee work, following 2003's bobrauschenbergamerica. Inspired by the life and artistry of Joseph Cornell, Hotel Cassiopeia plays Oct. 9-13. The work premiered at the 2006 Humana Festival. Bogart and Mee will take part in a BAMdialogue Oct 10.

Poland's TR Warszawa teams with co-producer Stary Teatr (Cracow) on the Hanoch Levin drama Krum, Oct. 17-20. Krzysztof Warlikowski (The Dybbuk at 2004's Next Wave Fest) directs the work billed as a "morality tale."

From Hamburg, Germany, comes the Thalia Theater's production of Lulu, which pares down the original Frank Wedekind text. Michael Thalheimer directs the work to be performed Nov. 27-Dec 1, in German with English titles. Next Wave vet director Thalheimer will participate in a BAMdialogue Nov. 29.

Tickets to the Next Wave Festival go on sale Sept. 4 ((ubscriptions will be available June 18). For more information, call BAM Ticket Services at (718) 636-4100 or visit BAM.org.
