Chip Zien, best known to Broadway audiences for creating the role of the Baker in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods, will join the cast of the Broadway revival of Les Misérables June 29.

Zien will begin a 10-week stint as Thenardier, stepping in for Gary Beach, who will be taking a brief leave-of-absence from the show.

The revival of the acclaimed musical will also see two other cast changes: Ensemble member Megan McGinnis will succeed Mandy Bruno in the role of the ill-fated Eponine June 18, and former ensemble member Robert Hunt will succeed Ben Davis as Javert beginning July 6. Before Hunt arrives, the role of Javert will be alternated by Drew Sarich and Ben Crawford.

Bruno and Davis were among four new principals who joined the cast at the Broadhurst Theatre April 24. That day also welcomed Ann Harada as Madame Thenardier and Max von Essen as Enjolras. Harada and von Essen will continue in their roles.

The cast of Les Miz also features includes Alexander Gemignani (Jean Valjean), Tony winner Lea Salonga (Fantine), Ali Ewoldt (Cosette) and Adam Jacobs (Marius).

Chip Zien has appeared on Broadway in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Boys From Syracuse, Into the Woods, Falsettos, Grand Hotel, The Suicide, All Over Town and Ride the Winds.

Megan McGinnis played Beth in Little Women and has also been seen on Broadway in Beauty and the Beast, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Parade and The Diary of Anne Frank.

Robert Hunt played Javert in the national tour of Les Misérables and has also been seen in productions of Jekyll & Hyde, Falsettos and Damn Yankees. He was also part of the original Broadway cast of this revival of Les Miz.

The revival of Les Misérables opened at the Broadhurst Theatre Nov. 9, 2006.
