Anderson Cast in Mufti I and Albert

By Andrew Gans
19 Jun 2007

Nancy Anderson

Nancy Anderson, who has appeared in numerous productions at the York Theatre Company, will return to the Off-Broadway venue in I and Albert, the second offering of the current Musicals in Mufti season.

The series, which offers rarely performed musicals in staged concert performances, will present I and Albert June 29-July 1. Playbill.com has learned that Anderson will play the "I" of the show's title, Queen Victoria. No other casting has been announced.

I and Albert — which boasts music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Lee Adams and a book by Jay Presson Allen — will be directed by Michael Montel. The York production marks the musical's New York premiere; it was previously seen at London's Piccadilly in 1972. The show, according to press notes, "tells the love story between Queen Victoria and her husband, Prince Albert. In 1839, Victoria fell in love with Albert who was her first cousin from the small German principality of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Married in 1840, royal couple's family life drastically differed with the images of previous British monarchs."

Nancy Anderson was most recently seen on Broadway as Eileen Sherwood in the revival of Wonderful Town. She made her Broadway debut as Mona in A Class Act and starred in the West End production of Kiss Me, Kate as Lois/Bianca. Off-Broadway she was seen in Fanny Hill (Drama Desk nomination), Jolson & Co. (Drama Desk nomination) and Fables in Slang. Anderson's regional theatre credits include Fanny Hill, Nicolette and By Jeeves.

The musical will play the Theatre at Saint Peter's, which is located at 54th Street, east of Lexington Avenue. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (212) 935-5820 or visit www.yorktheatre.org.
