From Awakening to Xanadu, "Broadway in Bryant Park" Sets Musicals Schedule

By Ernio Hernandez
20 Jun 2007

Continuing a summer tradition, the "Broadway in Bryant Park" series will feature a host of performances from Broadway musicals, including Spring Awakening, In the Heights, Legally Blonde, Grey Gardens, Curtains and Xanadu.

Radio station 106.7 FM presents the event at the midtown park featuring current and upcoming musicals — on Broadway and Off-Broadway — performing show tunes. Starting July 12 and continuing every Thursday, the series plays from 12:30 PM to approximately 1:45 PM. There is also a special Friday performance Aug. 10 to close the season.

This sixth annual summertime series line-up (subject to change) follows:

  • July 12: Mamma Mia!, Beauty and the Beast, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, In the Heights
  • July 19: Avenue Q, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Phantom of the Opera, Tarzan, Rent
  • July 26: Xanadu, Monty Python's Spamalot, The Lion King, Curtains, Stomp
  • Aug. 2: Les Misérables, Mary Poppins, Grey Gardens, Hairspray
  • Aug. 9: The Fantasticks, The Color Purple, Spring Awakening, Wicked
  • Aug. 10: Altar Boyz, Chicago, Legally Blonde

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis at Bryant Park, located just behind the New York Public Library on 6th Avenue between 40th and 42 Streets. In the case of rain, check Playbill.com or the radio's website for changes.
