Gillen to Join Pryce for Mamet's Glengarry in West End

Playbill.com has learned that an announcement will be made shortly that Aiden Gillen will join the previously announced Jonathan Pryce for the West End revival of David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning Glengarry Glen Ross, which opens at the Apollo Theatre Oct. 10, following previews that begin Sept. 27.

Variety reported in November 2006 that Pryce would take on the role of Shelley Levene in the revival, which will be directed by James Macdonald. It is thought that Anthony Ward will design the production.

Mamet's play premiered at the National Theatre's Cottesloe stage in 1983. It charts the brutal rivalry of a group of Florida real-estate salesmen fighting for the best prospect – that is, the dupe most likely to be parted from his money. Glengarry debuted on Broadway in 1984 at the John Golden Theatre and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama that same year. The 2005 revival at the Royale Theatre won the Tony for Best Revival of a Play, and co-star Liev Schreiber was awarded the Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Play.

Gillen's stage credits include Someone Who'll Watch Over Me in the West End and the title role in the Almeida production of Platanov. In 2003 Gillen made his Broadway debut in The Caretaker appearing with Patrick Stewart and Kyle MacLachlan.

Pryce was last seen in the West End in the Almeida production of Edward Albee's The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?. The Welsh-born coal miner's son also appeared in the 1992 film version of Mamet's play, alongside Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin and Kevin Spacey.

The West End production of Glengarry Glen Ross heralds Mamet's return to the London stage with a revival of Speed-the-Plow, starring Kevin Spacey, planned for the Old Vic in January 2008.

Further casting for Glengarry Glen Ross is expected soon.
