Lane and Borle Will Play Catch Me If You Can for New Musical's Workshop

Nathan Lane will star in the workshop of Catch Me If You Can opposite Legally Blonde's Christian Borle.
Variety reports that a private presentation of the developing musical will take place in Manhattan July 16-27.
Based on the 2002 Steven Spielberg film, Catch Me If You Can reunites the team behind the 2003 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Hairspray: composer lyricist Marc Shaiman, lyricist Scott Wittman, director Jack O'Brien and choreographer Jerry Mitchell. Terrence McNally joins the group as librettist.
Tony winner Lane (The Producers, ...Forum) — who appeared in an August 2006 workshop of Catch Me — reprises his turn as the federal agent on the trail of the young con man played by Borle (Monty Python's Spamalot, Legally Blonde).
"The score is as eclectic as the music of the mid '60s was," Shaiman previously told Playbill.com (May 2). "On any given Sunday, you could hear The Rolling Stones or The Beatles on 'Ed Sullivan,' a Frank Sinatra special or 'The Judy Garland TV Show,' teen idols on 'Hullabaloo,' Henry Mancini themes, Dean Martin & The Goldiggers. It is a fantastic palette to draw from."
The DreamWorks film told the true story of Frank Abagnale, Jr. (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), a young compulsive con man and the federal agent (played by Tom Hanks) who pursues him over many years. Christopher Walken played Frank Sr.
A fall 2005 reading featured Matthew Morrison as Frank Abagnale, Jr.; Lane as Hanratty; Tom Wopat as Frank Abagnale, Sr.; Christine Ebersole as Paula Abagnale; Celia Keenan-Bolger as Brenda; and Sara Gettelfinger as Cheryl Ann. The ensemble included Chester Gregory, Shayna Steele, Luther Creek and Mylinda Hull.
