On July 24 Max Crumm and Laura Osnes — the winners of the reality TV casting competition "Grease: You're the One That I Want" — begin performances as, respectively, Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski in the new Broadway production of Grease at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.

Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall, the production will officially open Aug. 19.

The cast also features Ryan Patrick Binder as Doody, Susan Blommaert as Miss Lynch, Jeb Brown as Vince, Stephen R. Buntrock as Teen Angel, Daniel Everidge as Roger, Allison Fischer as Patty, Robyn Hurder as Marty, Lindsay Mendez as Jan, Jenny Powers as Rizzo, Jose Restrepo as Sonny, Matthew Saldivar as Kenickie, Jamison Scott as Eugene and Kirsten Wyatt as Frenchy.

The ensemble comprises Josh Franklin, Cody Green, Natalie Hill (Cha-Cha), Matthew Hydzik, Emily Padgett, Keven Quillon, Brian Sears, Christina Sivrich, Amber Stone and Anna Aimee White.

The creative team also includes Derek McLane (scenic design), Martin Pakledinaz (costume design), Kenneth Posner (lighting design) and Brian Ronan (sound design).

During rehearsals, Osnes, who plays Sandy, told Playbill.com, "We did a lot of table work at the beginning to talk about the relationships between each of the characters and the fun that Danny and Sandy must have had the summer before, bringing that into every scene. Actually, the play, the way it's written, Danny and Sandy fight in every scene. They never are happy together, so … you could make Sandy just really pouty and wanting to make Danny apologize in every scene, but Kathleen Marshall really has this vision of both of them coming into each [scene], and each time they see each other, remembering what they had in the summer and wanting it to work so badly, until something else comes in the way. It's a deeper side of it. It is a new discovery in the role of Sandy and her relationship with Danny, which is exciting."

Crumm also praised his director in an interview with Playbill.com: "[Kathleen Marshall] is a dream. I couldn't have asked for any better opportunity . . . the way she directs is just phenomenal. She is so good at getting in and out of a song — she is so good at making every single bit of everything look perfect. I've had the pleasure to have been working with her since January, and so it's just great to continue to build upon the relationship we have."

Grease features book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The new production also boasts songs from the hit 1978 film, which co-starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Among the film songs heard in the Broadway revival are "Sandy," "Hopelessly Devoted to You," "Grease" and "You're the One That I Want."

Grease debuted on Broadway in February 1972 with a cast that included Barry Bostwick (Danny), Carole Demas (Sandy) and Adrienne Barbeau (Rizzo). The musical closed in April 1980, after playing 20 previews and 3,388 performances. The 1994 revival cast Rosie O'Donnell in the role of Rizzo.

Grease is produced on Broadway by Paul Nicholas and David Ian, Nederlander Presentations, Inc., Phoenix Productions and Terry Allen Kramer by arrangement with Robert Stigwood.

Show times are Tuesday-Saturday at 8 PM, Wednesday and Saturday at 2 PM and Sunday at 3 PM. Beginning Aug. 21, Tuesday performances will begin at 7 PM.

Tickets for Grease, priced $71.50-$121.50, are currently on sale through June 2008 by calling (212) 307-4100 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.

The Brooks Atkinson Theatre is located in Manhattan at 256 West 47th Street.
