Von Essen and Sapp Lend Broadway Advice to Hopefuls in Audition Boot Camp

By Adam Hetrick
25 Jul 2007

Broadway's Max Von Essen (Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables, Dance of the Vampires) and Robb Sapp (Wicked, Zanna Don't!) will share their career expertise with young theatre hopefuls as part of Outside the Box Productions' Audition Boot Camp.

Founder Jeremy Quinn, artistic director of educational theatre at the Westchester Broadway Dinner Theatre, will lead the intensive with co-instructors Danny Gordon and Lexie Frare, both previous participants in the workshop.

According to press materials, "Students will learn how to make the most of their auditions by choosing the right material, sharpening their presentation skills, dressing appropriately, knowing their type or their type for the moment, taking risks, owning the room, unleashing their unique spirit and coming to understand that they, each and every one of them, has a valuable contribution to make which may be necessary for many different projects. Performers will also have an opportunity to focus on dance auditions, vocal auditions, callbacks, cold readings, dealing with rejection, headshots, resumes, representation and the mindset that an audition can be an occasion of true satisfaction, joy and fun that has greater potential for personal creativity than they ever imagined."

Previous participants in Quinn's workshop have gone on to roles in Broadway's Spring Awakening, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Audition Boot Camp, for performers 10-17, will be held Aug. 18 and 19 at Dance Emotions, 75 South Greeley Avenue in Chappaqua, NY.

Space is extremely limited for this 12-hour, two-day master class in Westchester. For more information or to register, please call (917) 721-3506 or email Jeremy Quinn at jeremy@jeremyquinn.com.
