Off-Off-Broadway's Boomerang Theatre Company will present three disparate works — a Stoppard triptych, a world premiere 9/11 drama and a J.B. Priestley mystery — in repertory Sept. 6-30.
The world premiere of Larry Kirwan's The Heart Has a Mind of Its Own, a 9/11 play, directed by Cailin Heffernan. (Sept. 12-30).
Performances will play at CenterStage/NYC, 48 W. 21st Street, fourth floor, in Manhattan.
Tom Stoppard's Stoppard Goes Electric includes three plays (originally written for the BBC in the 1960s): A Separate Peace, directed by Rachel Wood; Teeth, directed by Tim Errickson; and Another Moon Called Earth, directed by Christopher Thomasson.
The cast for Stoppard Goes Electric includes Richard Brundage, Mac Brydon, Bill Green, Shauna Kelly, Kate Ross, Sara Thigpen, and Christopher Yeatts.
J.B Priestley's Dangerous Corner is set in 1931 England, at a publisher's dinner party. It "takes a sharp turn and becomes a private inquest into his brother's mysterious death." The cast will include Anthony Bertram, Catherine McNelis, David Nelson, Karen Sternberg, Barbara Drum Sullivan, Chris Thorn and Jaime West.
The 1933 Broadway production of Dangerous Corner included rewrites by the author. Boomerang will present the original pre-Broadway West End version, never seen in New York before.
Larry Kirwan's 9/11-themed The Heart has a Mind of Its Own focuses on Lieutenant Brian Murphy, NYPD, who died "when the Towers fell that morning," according to production notes. "Three years later truth and memory blur as his family continues to struggle with their grief and rage. Though their hero's shadow still looms large, it cannot obscure certain inconsistencies that force the family to come to terms with the enigma of Brian."
Kirwan is an Irish expatriate singer/songwriter and playwright best known as the leader of the band Black 47 (www.black47.com), formed in 1989, which plays Celtic-tinged folk-rock. Kirwan has also written a series of plays that have been produced in the U.S. and Europe, five of which were published in the book "Mad Angels" (1993). In 1998 he released his first solo album, the children's collection "Keltic Kids." "Kilroy Was Here," released in 2001, was his first solo album for adults.
The cast of The Heart will include Connie Barron, Kevin Collins, Doc Dougherty and Aurora Nessly.
