Philly Pops to Celebrate "Best of the Tony Awards" with York, Vroman and LaBrecque

By Andrew Gans
07 Aug 2007

The 2007-08 Peter Nero and the Philly Pops season will offer Broadway Showstoppers concerts Sept. 30 and Oct. 3, 5, 6 and 7.

The theme of this year's concerts, which feature the Philly Pops orchestra under the direction of Peter Nero, is the "Best of the Tony Awards." The concerts, which will boast tunes from Tony-winning shows, will feature the vocal talents of Lisa Vroman (The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables), Rachel York (Camelot, The Scarlet Pimpernel) and Doug LaBrecque (The Phantom of the Opera, Show Boat).

The Philly Pops will also offer two other concerts of interest to theatre fans. Spelling Bee's Lisa Howard will be part of Holiday POPS!, which will play Dec. 9, 12, 14-16, 19 and 21-23. The evenings will feature seasonal classics and gospel music. In addition to Howard, Holiday POPS! will also include two dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet, the POPS Festival Chorus and the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas Gospel Choir.

We Love Lucie will feature stage and screen star Lucie Arnaz, who will offer theatre tunes as well as anecdotes about her life growing up with famous parents. Performance dates are March 2, 5, 7-9, 2008.

Subscriptions for the Peter Nero and the Philly Pops season are now on sale. For more information call (215) 893-1955 or visit www.phillypops.org. The concerts will be presented at the Kimmel Center, which is located at Broad and Spruce Streets in Philadelphia, PA.
