Marni Nixon to Join My Fair Lady Tour in Chicago

Marni Nixon — who is perhaps best known for dubbing the vocal performances of such film stars as Audrey Hepburn (in "My Fair Lady"), Deborah Kerr (in "The King and I") and Natalie Wood (in "West Side Story") — will join the cast of the North American tour of My Fair Lady when it arrives in Chicago at the Cadillac Palace Theatre.
Nixon will succeed Sally Ann Howes, who is scheduled to kick off the tour in September, in the role of Mrs. Higgins; Nixon will continue with the tour after Chicago.
My Fair Lady will play the Cadillac Palace Theatre Jan. 22-Feb. 3, 2008. The production is part of the 2008 Walgreens Broadway in Chicago Season series.
The series will also feature The Drowsy Chaperone (April 1-13), Sweeney Todd (April 23-May 4), Avenue Q (May 21-June 7) and Dirty Dancing — The Classic Story On Stage (limited engagement begins Sept. 2).
The series will also feature the opportunity to purchase two off-season specials: Rent (Feb. 12-17 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre) and The Sparrow (begins Sept. 26 at the Apollo Theatre).

The upcoming production of My Fair Lady is based on the Cameron Mackintosh/National Theatre of Great Britain's award-winning London staging. That Fair Lady production opened at the National Theatre of Great Britain in March 2001 before transferring to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in July 2001. The show won five Laurence Olivier Awards, including Outstanding Musical Production.
As previously announced, the tour of the legendary Lerner & Loewe musical will star acclaimed British theatre actors Christopher Cazenove and Lisa O'Hare, who earned rave reviews for their dynamic performances as, respectively, Professor Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle in the U.K. They will also be joined onstage by Walter Charles as Colonel Hugh Pickering, Alma Cuervo as Mrs. Pearce, Sally Ann Howes as Mrs. Higgins, Tim Jerome as Alfred P. Doolittle and Justin Bohon as Freddy Eynsford-Hill. At some performances the role of Eliza will be played by Dana DeLisa.
The ensemble will comprise David Abeles, John Paul Almon, Harlen Bengel, Eric Briarley, Ronald L. Brown, Debra Cardona, Kyle DesChamps, Bill Dietrich, Warren Freeman, Jazmin Gorsline, Robin Haynes, Marnee Hollis, Lisa Kassay, Adam Laird, Lainie Munro, Christine Negherbon, Cathy Newman, Georga Osborne, Lauren Pastorek, John Schacchetti, Byron St. Cyr, Jesse Swimm, David Tankersley, Stephanie Van Duynhoven, Erin Willis and Lee Zarrett.
The U.S. national tour of My Fair Lady brings together the original U.K. artistic team with direction by Trevor Nunn (Les Miserables), choreography and musical staging by Matthew Bourne (Mary Poppins), production design by Anthony Ward and lighting design by David Hersey. Stephen Brooker is musical supervisor; orchestrations are by William David Brohn with dance arrangements by Chris Walker. The creative team also includes Paul Groothuis (sound designer), Fergus Logan (associate choreographer) and Shaun Kerrison (associate director).
Marni Nixon was most recently on Broadway in the Tony-winning revival of Nine, and her other Main Stem credits include Follies, James Joyce's The Dead and The Girl in the Pink Tights. She played Aunt Alice in the film "I Think I Do" and Sister Sophia in the motion picture of "The Sound of Music." Nixon was also seen as Mother Abbess in the Hollywood Bowl's presentation of The Sound of Music.

My Fair Lady is based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion and features a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The original Broadway production opened on March 15, 1956, ran for over six years and won nine Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical. The score contains such Broadway classics as "I Could Have Danced All Night," "On the Street Where You Live," "Wouldn't It Be Loverly?" and "Get Me to the Church on Time."
