The national tour of the Tony Award-winning revival of John Kander and Fred Ebb's Chicago will close after its upcoming engagement in San Diego, Playbill.com has learned. The decade-long tour will play its final stop at San Diego's Civic Theatre Sept. 4-9.

"After 10 fabulous years on tour," a spokesperson told Playbill.com, "the Broadway national tour of Chicago will close in San Diego. Due to casting and scheduling conflicts the last performance will be on Sunday, Sept. 9."

Playbill.com has also learned that the musical's producers are currently working on mounting a tour of the six-time Tony Award winner that will begin in 2008.

The cast for the San Diego run will include George Hamilton as Billy Flynn, Terra C. MacLeod as Velma Kelly, Michelle DeJean as Roxie Hart and Roz Ryan as Matron "Mama" Morton.

The tour is produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, who also produced the long-running Broadway production, which continues to play New York's Ambassador Theatre. Chicago's cumulative audience tally for Broadway reached a total of five million patrons at the Aug. 3 performance.

Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse.

The San Diego Civic Theatre is located at 3rd and B Street in downtown San Diego, CA. Tickets, priced $19-$75, are available by calling (619) 570-1100 or (619) 220-TIXS or by visiting www.broadwaysd.com.
