The Tonys and Stritch Win Creative Arts Emmys; TV Broadcast Set for Sept. 15

The 60th Annual Tony Awards won the Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Program at the 59th Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which were presented Sept. 8 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
The 2006 Tony telecast, which was executive-produced by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, bested the 79th Annual Academy Awards, Jerry Seinfeld-The Comedian Awards, Prince Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show and The 64th Golden Globe Awards.
Tony Award winner Elaine Stritch also picked up another Emmy for her guest starring role as Colleen Donaghy on "30 Rock." Stritch won the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy in a field that also included Laurie Metcalf ("Desperate Housewives"), Dixie Carter ("Desperate Housewives"), Salma Hayek ("Ugly Betty") and Judith Light ("Ugly Betty"). Other acting awards went to Stanley Tucci for "Monk" (Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series), John Goodman for "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" (Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series) and Leslie Caron for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series). Spike Lee won the Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming for his work on HBO's "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts."
The "My Musical" episode of "Scrubs," which featured Avenue Q Tony nominee Stephanie D'Abruzzo, picked up an Emmy for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (half-hour) and Animation.

The 59th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast on FOX-TV Sept. 16 live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA.
