Zorro in Hell Will Now End Los Angeles Run Sept. 15

The Los Angeles run of Culture Clash's Zorro in Hell has cut short its second extension at the Ricardo Montalbán Theatre and will close Sept. 15.
The show began previews July 11 and officially opened July 18 for a run originally scheduled through Aug. 19. The work then added three weeks of performances to Sept. 9 and had extended again for a planned final show on Sept. 30.
Tony Taccone — who staged the co-world premiere at Berkeley Repertory Theatre and the La Jolla Playhouse — returned to direct the production at the Hollywood stage.
Written and performed by the performance troupe of Richard Montoya, Ric Salinas and Herbert Siguenza (Culture Clash in AmeriCCa), Zorro in Hell offers a "Latin look behind the mask of this mainstream icon" as he "rides out of the pages of pulp fiction, through the Hollywood image machine and beyond the barriers of class, race and ethnicity to become a hero for the oppressed in every land," as production notes reveal.
The cast also features Sharon Lockwood (The Alchemist) and Yusef Kamal (Homebody/Kabul). Vincent Montoya (The Birds) provides original music for the production.
The design team includes Christopher Acebo (scenic), Christal Weatherly (costume), Alexander V. Nichols (lighting and video) and Robbin E. Broad (sound). The stage manager is Kimberly Mark Webb.
Director Taccone serves as the artistic director for Berkeley Rep and has staged Sarah Jones' Bridge & Tunnel as well as Tony Kushner and Maurice Sendak's Brundibar.
