The York Theatre Company's production of Enter Laughing: The Musical — part of the acclaimed Musicals in Mufti series — begins performances Sept. 28.

The Sept. 28-30 concerts feature direction by Stuart Ross with musical direction by Matt Castle; the latter also appears in various cameo roles. The cast also includes Jill Eikenberry as Mother, Michael Tucker as Father, George S. Irving as Marlowe, Bruce Adler as Foreman, Josh Grisetti as David, Kaitlin Hopkins as Angela, Robb Sapp as Marvin and Kelly Sullivan as Miss B.

Enter Laughing: The Musical features a book by Joseph Stein and music and lyrics by the late Stan Daniels. The musical is based on Stein's play, which was based on Carl Reiner's semi-autobiographical novel.

Originally titled So Long, 174th Street, Enter Laughing: The Musical concerns "the journey of young aspiring actor David Kolowitz as he tries to free himself from overly protective parents and girlfriends, while struggling to meet the challenge of a lack of talent in 1930s New York City," according to press notes. (Actor George S. Irving also played the role of Marlowe in the 1976 production of So Long, 174th Street).

All four fall Mufti offerings boast a book by Stein. The series began with Zorba and will continue with The Body Beautiful (Oct. 12-14) and The Baker's Wife (Oct. 26-28).

Five performances of each show will be presented: Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 2:30 and 8 PM and Sundays at 2:30 and 7:30 PM. Audience discussions follow the matinee performances.

The Mufti series is presented at the Theatre at Saint Peter's, which is located at 54th Street, east of Lexington Avenue. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (212) 935-5820 or visit www.yorktheatre.org.
