Tony Award winners Kristin Chenoweth and Swoosie Kurtz as well as fellow stage actors Lee Pace, Anna Friel and Ellen Greene star in the new ABC television series "Pushing Daisies," which premieres Oct. 3.

Bryan Fuller ("Heroes," "Wonderfalls") and Barry Sonnenfeld ("Men in Black") created the new hour-long series, which debuts at 8 PM (ET) and will continue Wednesdays in the same time slot. (Check local listings.)

Billed as a "blend of romance, fantasy and mystery," "Pushing Daisies" follows a "forensic fairytale about Ned, a young man with a very special gift," according to a show description. "As a young boy Ned discovers that he can return the dead briefly back to life with just one touch. But his random gift isn't without deadly consequences… as he soon finds out."

Pace — seen Off-Broadway's The Guardians — stars as Ned opposite Anna Friel (original star of Closer) and Chi McBride ("Boston Public," "The Nine"). Chenoweth plays a featured role along with fellow stage leading ladies Greene (Little Shop of Horrors) and Kurtz. Jim Dale (The Threepenny Opera) provides the show's narration.

Other stage credits for Pace include Small Tragedy, The Fourth Sister and The Credeaux Canvas as well as TV's "Wonderfalls" and "Soldier's Girl."

A Tony winner for You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Chenoweth has also played on Broadway in Wicked, The Apple Tree, Steel Pier and Epic Proportions. She has taken to both the big and small screens: in TV's "The West Wing" and in the films "Bewitched," "The Pink Panther," "RV," "Running with Scissors," "Stranger Than Fiction" and "Deck the Halls."

Kurtz — last seen in the Broadway revival of Heartbreak House — has provided Emmy Award-nominated turns on Showtime's "Huff" and "Sisters." The actress won Tony Awards for The House of Blue Leaves and Fifth of July and a nomination for her turn in Frozen. Other stage credits include Imaginary Friends, Love Letters, A History of the American Film, Tartuffe, The Mineola Twins, and Ah, Wilderness!

Ellen Greene began her career as a nightclub singer, performing in the now closed New York cabaret Reno Sweeney. At age 21, Joseph Papp took her under his wing and cast her in productions of Boom Boom Room and The Threepenny Opera. Greene earned a Tony nomination for her work in the latter, but it was her role as Audrey in both the original stage and film productions of Little Shop of Horrors that brought her national attention. Among her recent theatrical credits are the West Coast staging of Side Man and an all-star reading of Women Behind Bars. Her many screen credits include "The Cooler," "One Fine Day," "Léon," "Fathers & Sons," "Stepping Out," "Pump Up the Volume," "Talk Radio" and "Next Stop, Greenwich Village." Her solo recording is titled "In His Eyes."
