DeWolf, Eliker, Ford and Mertz See Double in Pittsburgh Comedy of Errors

By Kenneth Jones
08 Oct 2007

Pittsburgh Public Theater began its 33rd season Oct. 4 with the first preview of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, featuring 16 actors — 14 of them from Pittsburgh — making merry in a contemporary urban setting.

The famous tale of mistaken identity, two sets of twins separated in infancy, and happy reunions is directed by PPT's producing artistic director Ted Pappas.

"The concept is a combination of classic Shakespeare and 'Saturday Night Live,'" Pappas stated. "Without altering the text, we've catapulted the play to the present day and set it in a 'city that never sleeps.' The cast is fabulous — each and every one a scene stealer."

Opening is Oct. 12. Performances continue to Nov. 4 at Pittsburgh Public's O'Reilly Theater.

The cast includes Ken Bolden as Angelo; Alex Coleman as Egeon; Nat DeWolf as Dromio of Syracuse; Joseph Domencic as First Merchant; Darren Eliker as Antipholus of Syracuse; Evan R. Endres as Officer; Tom Ford as Dromio of Ephesus; Lisa Ann Goldsmith as The Courtesan; Amy Landis as Luciana; Doug Mertz as Antipholus of Ephesus; Doug Pona as Second Merchant; Helena Ruoti Adriana; Tom Schaller as The Duke/Doctor Pinch; Ingrid Sonnichsen as Emilia; Marcus Stevens as Balthasar/Messenger; Ted Watts, Jr. as Officer.

The creative team includes James Noone (scenic designer), Martha Louise Bromelmeier (costume designer), Kirk Bookman (lighting designer), Zach Moore (sound designer) Randy Kovitz (fight director), Ruth E. Kramer (production stage manager), Fredric H. Orner (assistant stage manager), Pat McCorkle Casting, Ltd (casting director).
