Lloyd, Hearn, Barbeau, Kane and More Set for Grumpy Old Men: The Musical Reading

By Andrew Gans
11 Oct 2007

Christopher Lloyd

As previously announced, two staged readings of the Broadway-bound Grumpy Old Men: The Musical will be presented in Manhattan in November.

The by-invitation-only readings, produced by Jeff Gardner, will be held Nov. 1 and 2. The cast will include Christopher Lloyd as Max Goldman, George Hearn as John Gustafson, Adrienne Barbeau as Ariel Truax, Carol Kane as Punky Barrels, Garrett Morris as Chuck and Conrad John Schuck as Grandpa Gustafson. The company will also feature Janet Metz, Jordan Leeds, Rita Harvey, Bjorn Johnson, Carter Calvert, David Beach, Timothy Shew, Joy Hermalyn and Jerold Goldstein.

Executive producer Ken Denison said in a statement, "This is an outstanding opportunity to bring back to Broadway some of our finest veteran performers."

Grumpy Old Men: The Musical is based on the 1993 Warner Bros. film of the same name. Glen Casale will direct the reading of Grumpy, which features a score by Neil Berg (music) and Nick Meglin (lyrics) and a book by Dan Remmes.

The musical, according to press notes, "is the story of two aging men, Max and John, neighbors, who have been feuding for most of their lives. The two men are re-united in friendship through the love and compassion of their new neighbor across the street, the beautiful, and eccentric, Ariel."
