The new ABC television comedy "Samantha Who?" — starring Broadway veterans Christina Applegate and Jean Smart — makes its debut Oct. 15.

Cecelia Ahern and Donald Todd created the half-hour series, which premieres Oct. 15 at 9:30 PM (ET) and continues Mondays in the same time slot. (Check your local listings.)

"What if you had the chance to start over, to do it all again?," poses show notes. "For Samantha Newly (Applegate), this fantasy becomes a reality after a hit-and-run accident leaves her in an eight-day coma...Sam quickly discovers she was a horrible person. Vain, selfish and potentially surrounded by far more enemies than friends."

Smart plays the hitherto-estranged mother of Applegate's character. Also featured in the series are Jennifer Esposito, Kevin Dunn, Melissa McCarthy, Tim Russ and Barry Watson.

Both former Tony Award nominees, Applegate earned her nod for her Broadway debut in the 2005 revival of Sweet Charity, while Smart was nominated for the 2000 run of The Man Who Came to Dinner.

Applegate is known to TV audiences for her turn in the long-running series "Married with Children." Other credits include the films "Anchorman," "The Sweetest Thing" and "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead" as well as her Emmy Award-winning guest turn on "Friends."

Smart recently earned her fourth Emmy nomination for her stint on "24" — she won two honors for her guest spots on "Frasier" and was also nommed for "The District." The actress — who has also played the boards in Piaf, Fit to Be Tied and The End of the Day — has also been seen in "Designing Women" and the films "Lucky You," "Garden State," "Sweet Home Alabama" and "I Heart Huckabees."
