Film Society of Lincoln Center to Honor Meryl Streep

By Adam Hetrick
15 Oct 2007

The Film Society of Lincoln Center will honor Academy Award winner Meryl Streep at its 35th annual Gala Tribute April 14, 2008.

Streep, a two-time Academy Award winner for her work in "Kramer vs. Kramer" and "Sophie's Choice," will be honored for her screen work, which also includes "The French Lieutenant's Woman," "The Hours," "Postcards from the Edge" and "The Devil Wears Prada."

The Film Society of New York's Gala Tribute director, Wendy Keys, said in a statement, "While her luminous onscreen presence is never less than dazzling, you always feel her keen intelligence and wit, her extraordinary level of insight. She truly embodies every character she plays and what an extraordinary range of characters."

Previous Film Society honorees include Fred Astaire, Alfred Hitchcock, Federico Fellini, Bob Hope (tribute directed by Woody Allen), Claudette Colbert, Elizabeth Taylor, Bette Davis, James Stewart, Audrey Hepburn, Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery, Martin Scorsese, Michael Caine, Susan Sarandon, Jane Fonda and Mike Nichols and Diane Keaton.

The gala event will take place at Avery Fisher Hall, under the direction of Wendy Keys with Gala Tribute producer Tony Impavido. Tributes to Streep from her fellow actors, directors and other members of the industry will be presented as well as a selection of the esteemed actress's career highlights.

Streep most recently performed on the New York stage in Mother Courage and The Seagull at the Delacorte and served as producer for Sara Jones: Bridge and Tunnel..

Tickets for the Gala Tribute are $50, $100, $125 and $175, and tickets for the Gala Tribute and Dinner Dance, immediately following at the New York State Theater, are $1,500. For more information visit www.filmlinc.com or call (212) 875-5630.
