Natasha Lyonne Cast in Off-Broadway Debut of Leigh's Two Thousand Years

Natasha Lyonne will appear in The New Group's upcoming American premiere of Mike Leigh's Two Thousand Years Off-Broadway.
Casting and dates have been announced for the second production in the company's new season. Artistic director Scott Elliott will stage the Leigh work, which is scheduled to begin previews Jan. 15, 2008, and officially open Jan. 31 on Theatre Row.
Lyonne will be featured in an ensemble that also includes Yuval Boim, David Cale (Floyd and Clea), Laura Esterman (Marvin's Room, Terrorism), Jordan Gelber (Avenue Q), Merwin Goldsmith (Me and My Girl), Cindy Katz (Well) and Richard Masur (Democracy).
Two Thousand Years, according to press notes, centers on "an assimilated Jewish family [whose] quiet life in suburban London gets turned upside down when their son becomes seriously devout."
Known for her film work in "Slums of Beverly Hills," "American Pie," and "But I'm a Cheerleader," Lyonne also co-starred in Charles Busch's "Die Mommie Die." Other credits include "Goyband," "Party Monster," "Kate & Leopold," "Detroit Rock City" and "Pee-Wee's Playhouse."
Director Elliott returns to the work of playwright Leigh — whose Abigail's Party he also staged — with the production of Two Thousand Years. The new work (seen in 2005 at London's National Theatre) continues the collaboration of Elliott and Leigh, who also teamed on Goose-Pimples and Smelling a Rat.
The New Group's season will launch with Ethan Hawke directing Paul Dano, Peter Dinklage, Josh Hamilton and Zoe Kazan in the world premiere of Jonathan Marc Sherman's Things We Want (Oct. 22-Dec. 15). The line-up also includes Mark Brokaw staging Kevin Elyot's Mouth to Mouth (May 2008).
