Hear Our Song, Featuring Broadway Songbook, to Benefit Local Charities

By Adam Hetrick
18 Oct 2007

Harmony Entertainment Group will present Hear Our Song, an original review utilizing popular songs from the musical theatre canon, as a benefit for several local charities.

Incorporating the songs of Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Kander and Ebb, Stephen Sondheim, David Shire, Jason Robert Brown, Stephen Schwartz, Elton John and others, Hear Our Song features an original libretto penned by Kleban Award winner Susan DiLallo.

Hear Our Song, according to press notes, "is the story of five women, ages 20 to 60, sharing the ages and stages of their lives, their neuroses and catharses, in a humorous and personal way."

The cast will comprise Janet Carroll (Little Women), Trisha Rapier (The Boy from Oz), Sonia Perez (Carmen), Toni Seawright (Street Corner Symphony) and Karissa Staples ("Red Hook"). Jason Howland, Tony-nominated composer of Little Women, serves as musical consultant. All parties involved have donated their time and services for Hear Our Song.

Hear Our Song was developed and created by Joel Ehrlich and Janet Lazer. Ehrlich will direct, with Lazer serving as producer for the event.

Hear Our Song is currently scheduled to perform for the following charities: the Rett Syndrome Research Foundation (8 PM Nov. 2, at Riverspace Arts in Nyack, NY); the Friends of the Coltrane Home in Dix Hills (7:30 PM Nov. 10 at Candlewood Middle School in Dix Hills, NY); and the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation (7:30 PM Dec. 1 and 3 PM Dec. 2 at Edgemont Theater in Scarsdale, NY).

An auction, after each performance, with items donated by the entertainment and sports communities, will raise additional funds for the various charities involved.

Ticket prices range from $50 to $100 for platinum seating and are available by visiting www.theatermania.com.
