Bogart, McDormand, Strathairn Among Artists Exploring Macbeth in CSC's Monday Series

By Kenneth Jones
18 Oct 2007

Each act of Shakespeare's Macbeth will be explored consecutively by different directors and actors — Ruben Santiago-Hudson, David Strathairn, Frances McDormand and members of Anne Bogart's SITI Company, among others — in Classic Stage Company's Monday Night Macbeth this fall.

Artists "will work through and explore a different act of Shakespeare's Macbeth with an acclaimed director in front of an audience on four Monday evenings" at the Off-Broadway troupe's home at 136 E. 13th Street.

According to CSC, "Audiences will have the opportunity to become part of the creative process as they experience different Macbeths and Lady Macbeths, through varying interpretations and actor and directorial choices."

On Nov. 12 CSC artistic director Brian Kulick will work on Act I (cast to be announced); on Nov. 19 Barry Edelstein directs Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson in Act II; on Nov. 26 Michael Sexton, artistic director of The Shakespeare Society, works with David Strathairn and Frances McDormand on Act III; and on Dec. 3, Anne Bogart and her SITI Company tackle Act IV.

Monday Night Macbeth is presented in association with the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation and The Shakespeare Society. Tickets are $30 "and are extremely limited."

To order visit classicstage.org, call (212) 352-3101 or (866) 811-4111, or visit Classic Stage Company in person at 136 East 13th Street, between Third and Fourth Avenue.
