Carolee Carmello stars in Mamma Mia!

The international hit musical Mamma Mia!, which continues to pack in audiences at the Winter Garden Theatre, becomes the 18th longest-running production in Broadway history Oct. 21.

Mamma Mia!, which played its 2,500th performance Oct. 20, has now surpassed Mel Brooks' The Producers to become Broadway's 18th-longest running show. The New York company currently features Carolee Carmello as Donna Sheridan, Judy McLane as Tanya, Carey Anderson as Sophie Sheridan, Gina Ferrall as Rosie, Andy Kelso as Sky, Christopher Shyer as Sam Carmichael, Ben Livingston as Harry Bright and Pearce Bunting as Bill Austin.

Mamma Mia! employs the hit songs of famed pop group ABBA to tell the story of Sophie Sheridan, a young girl who hopes to discover the identity of her father. On the eve of her wedding, she brings three men from her mother Donna's past back to the Greek island they visited over two decades ago.

Mamma Mia! features music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, a book by Catherine Johnson, direction by Phyllida Lloyd and choreography by Anthony Van Laast. The musical plays the Winter Garden Theatre, which is located in New York City at 1634 Broadway.

A film version of Mamma Mia! — starring Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan – will be released in summer 2008.
