MARQUEE VALUE: Cyrano de Bergerac at the Richard Rodgers Theatre

By Matthew Blank
23 Oct 2007

Production: Cyrano de Bergerac, written by Edmond Rostand, adapted by Anthony Burgess, directed by David Leveaux, starring Kevin Kline, Jennifer Garner and Daniel Sunjata.

Previews: October 12, 2007

Opening: November 1, 2007

Closing: December 23, 2007

Venue: Richard Rodgers Theatre, 226 West 46th Street, New York, NY

Adapted from Edmond Rostand's 1897 classic, the story concerns the soulful poet/philosopher Cyrano, a cadet in the French Army, who falls for the beautiful, strong-willed Roxane, but is too ashamed of his large nose to tell her. When he learns that she loves Christian, his handsome, dim-witted comrade, he pens poetry and love letters to Roxane on Christian's behalf. After many years, the truth is revealed. Will love or beauty conquer all?
