This year, the annual Wicked Day Block Party is being held at The Friendship Garden, which is located on West 150th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Harlem. The three-hour celebration — hosted by New York Restoration Project founder and chairperson Midler — begins at 11 AM.
In addition to the opening of the new garden, the block party will include games, giveaways and a costume contest as well as special exhibits with tips on "how to live a greener life." The Block Party will also feature performances by current Wicked cast members.
Designed by Wicked associate set designer Edward Pierce, The Friendship Garden, according to press notes, "will become a public green oasis in one of New York City's underserved neighborhoods [and] will feature elements inspired by Wicked, including a yellow brick road and likenesses of the musical's characters, as well as flexible space for use by the neighborhood and the New Heights Academy, a charter school adjacent to the garden."
Wicked continues to play Broadway's Gershwin Theatre.
