MCC's Spain — Starring Annabella Sciorra — Opens Off-Broadway Oct. 30

30 Oct 2007

MCC Theater officially opens its new season Oct. 30 with Jim Knable's Spain starring Annabella Sciorra as a dreamy traveler.

Jeremy Dobrish (Election Day, The Joy of Sex) directs the production, which began previews Oct. 10 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre for a limited engagement through Nov. 17.

"Reeling from an acrimonious divorce," press notes read, "Barbara finds solace in her overactive imagination. After conjuring her dream lover — a sexy Conquistador decked out in a full suit of armor — the two embark on a fantastical journey which prompts her to give in to her darkest desires."

Sciorra stars as Barbara opposite Michael Aronov (Mauritius - Huntington Theatre) as El Conquistador. Veanne Cox (Caroline or Change, Last Easter) plays Diversion, Erik Jensen ("The Bronx is Burning," co-author The Exonerated) is John, and Lisa Kron (Well, 2.5 Minute Ride) portrays Ancient.

Sciorra has appeared on the New York stage in Roar, Those The River Keeps and Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues. The actress — seen on television's "The Sopranos" — has appeared in such films as "Jungle Fever," "Cadillac Man," "The Night We Never Met," "Romeo is Bleeding," "Mr. Wonderful," "What Dreams May Come" and "Chasing Liberty."

The design team of Spain features Beowulf Boritt (scenic), Jenny Mannis (costume), Michael Gottlieb (lighting) and Jill BC DuBoff (sound). Rick Sordelet provides fight direction.

Spain was previously performed at the 2006 Summer Play Festival and at the Woolly Mammoth Theatre, among other venues. Knable's other plays include Saltimbanques, True and Solid Ground and The Travesty of Hamlet.

Tickets to Spain at The Lucille Lortel Theatre, 121 Christopher Street, are available by calling (212) 279-4200. For more information visit MCCTheater.org.
