Times Square TKTS Booth Opens Early Nov. 29; More Tix and Better Locations Likely

In order to accommodate parched theatregoers who may be extra thirsty for a discounted ticket to a Broadway show following the 19-day strike, Theatre Development Fund will open its Times Square TKTS booth a half-hour early Nov. 29 — at 2:30 PM.

On Nov. 28 stagehands ended their strike against producers when the two sides reached a tentative labor contract. Most of Broadway has been dark since Nov. 10. All Broadway shows that had been playing prior to the strike will be up and running Nov. 29.

Since theatregoers may have been shy to purchase in advance in recent weeks, theatres may be releasing more tickets and better locations to the TKTS booth "in the short run," TDF executive director Victoria Bailey told Playbill.com.

"What we anticipate is that we will see more tickets to the shows that we had been getting tickets from [prior to the Nov. 10-28 strike]," Bailey said. "And I think that we're going to be seeing very good locations for a few performances because people haven't been buying tickets in advance in recent weeks."

The "short run" means, roughly, this weekend. And that doesn't mean super-hot shows like Wicked and Jersey Boys will necessarily be at the TKTS booth — those shows tend to be strong advance-sellers.

As things get back up and running and theatregoers get back in the habit of seeing plays and musicals (particularly in the usually busy holiday period), locations and availability will change (as they always do from day-to-day) at the two TKTS locations.

TKTS booths are located at the street level at the Marriott Marquis Hotel on 46th Street at the South Street Seaport downtown.
