Christmas Carol Begins Performances at McCarter Theatre Dec. 2

By Andrew Gans
02 Dec 2007

The McCarter Theatre Center's annual holiday production of A Christmas Carol begins performances at the New Jersey venue Dec. 2.

David Thompson adapted the Charles Dickens classic, which features direction by Michael Unger. The production will officially open on the McCarter's Matthews Stage Dec. 7; the limited engagement runs through Dec. 23.

Heading the cast as Ebenezer Scrooge is James A. Stephens, who was seen on Broadway in 45 Seconds from Broadway and Off-Broadway in House and Garden. Stephens is joined onstage by Lisa Altomare, Barnaby Carpenter, Kevin Collins, Kathy Fitzgerald, Richard Gallagher, Karron Graves, Janet Metz, Ned Noyes, John O'Creagh, Karen Pittman and Ronica Reddick.

The adult ensemble comprises Joel Bauer, Adolpho Blaire, Christopher Brady, Laurie Gardner, Jason Benjamin Gill, Shanna Heverly, Nick Kepley, Mary Elizabeth Milton, Mahalia Miner-LeGrand, Jed Peterson and Jill Sanders.

A Christmas Carol, according to press notes, is a "timeless holiday masterpiece of Ebenezer Scrooge and his magical journey into Christmas past, present and future."

The design team includes set designer Ming Cho Lee, costume designer Jess Goldstein, lighting designer Stephen Strawbridge and sound designer Brian Ronan. The production features music and lyrics by Michael Starobin, choreography by Rob Ashford and musical direction by Charles Sundquist.

McCarter Theatre Center is located in Manhattan at 91 University Place, Princeton, NJ. Tickets, priced $31-$55, are available by calling (609) 258-ARTS or by visiting www.mccarter.org.
