Tickets for Broadway's In the Heights Go On Sale Dec. 5 & 22

By Kenneth Jones
04 Dec 2007

The days may be cold, but the music's hot. The producers of the new Broadway-bound musical In the Heights — set on a steamy summer day in uptown Manhattan, and infused with hot tropical rhythms — go on sale to American Express cardholders Dec. 5, and to the general public Dec. 22.

Tickets range from $21.50 to $111.50, and can be purchased through www.Ticketmaster.com; or visit americanexpress.com/entertainment.

In the Heights, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda (who also stars) and Quiara Alegría Hudes, will begin previews on Feb. 14, 2008, and open March 9, 2008, at Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre, 226 W. 46th Street.

With music and lyrics by ASCAP's 2007 Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, book by Quiara Alegría Hudes, and conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda, In the Heights is directed by Thomas Kail and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler. The director and choreographer recently won SSDC's Callaway Awards for their work on the 2007 Off-Broadway run of In the Heights.

Alex Lacamoire is music director, and music arrangements are by Lacamoire and Bill Sherman. Lin-Manuel Miranda stars in the role of Usnavi, the hip-hop-friendly Dominican who runs a bodega in Washington Heights. He serves as witness (and the audience's guide) to the diverse neighborhood, teeming with characters who keep reaching for American success, identity and happiness.

In the Heights is produced by Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller and Jill Furman.

On Broadway, In the Heights will feature scenic design by Anna Louizos, costumes by Paul Tazewell, lighting by Howell Binkley and sound by Acme Sound Partners.

According to the producers, "In the Heights is a quintessential New York musical about a vibrant and tight-knit community at the top of the island of Manhattan. The music pulses with the hopes and dreams of three generations as they struggle to forge an identity in a neighborhood on the brink of transition."
