Stage Door Records Launches with Four Vintage Releases

By Andrew Gans
02 Jan 2008

The new London-based record company, Stage Door Records, has launched its label with four vintage recordings.

Stage Door Records, according to the company's official website, takes "pride in presenting nostalgic recordings with top quality re-mastering, period artwork, unusual and rare selections — all at an affordable price." The company's initial releases follow:

"Shirley Bassey—The Early Years": includes Bassey's debut record, "Burn My Candle"; selections from "The Bewitching Miss Bassey"; songs from a performance at London's Café De Paris; and four unreleased tracks by Bassey's 1960s musical director Kenny Clayton that pay tribute to the singer.

Wish You Were Here: the original Broadway cast recording of the 1952 Harold Rome musical that featured Jack Cassidy, Sheila Bond and Patricia Marand; the CD also features bonus tracks performed by composer Rome.

On Your Toes & Pal Joey — "Two Great Shows From Rodgers and Hart": these 1950s studio recordings featured Portia Nelson and Jack Cassidy (On Your Toes) and Martha Tilton and June Hutton (Pal Joey).

"Leonard Sillman Presents: New Faces of 1956 & Selections from Mrs. Patterson": the complete original Broadway cast recording of New Faces of 1956 as well as selections from Mrs. Patterson, which starred Eartha Kitt.

Stage Door releases are currently available at Dress Circle, Footlight, The Orchard Theatre or by visiting www.stagedoorrecords.com.
