LaBute Directs Machado, Lisbe, Chao and Newman as Feuerstein's Some Girl(s)

By Ernio Hernandez
15 Jan 2008

Mark Feuerstein

Mark Feuerstein will be the man in the middle of Some Girl(s) when Neil LaBute directs his own work for Los Angeles' Geffen Playhouse. Justina Machado, Paula Cale Lisbe, Rosalind Chao and Jaime Ray Newman will co-star in the title roles.

Previews begin Jan. 29 and the show opens Feb. 6 at the California company's Audrey Skirball Theater for a run through March 9.

Following last season's production of LaBute's Fat Pig, Geffen continues its collaboration with the playwright with his play about a man reconnecting with past relationships. In the exposé of the modern male, a blossoming writer is on the verge of matrimony when he comes down with a bad case of cold feet. To make sense of his present, he calls up old girlfriends and hops flights across the country to see them.

Mark Feuerstein ("The West Wing," "Good Morning, Miami" "In Her Shoes") stars; his former loves will include Paula Cale Lisbe ("Providence"), Justina Machado ("Six Feet Under"), Rosalind Chao ("Star Trek: The Next Generation," "The Joy Luck Club") and Jaime Ray Newman (Fat Pig, "Veronica Mars").

The design team includes Sibyl Wickersheimer (scenic), Lynette Meyer (costume), Kristie Roldan (lighting) and Cricket Myers (sound).

Some Girl(s) debuted in London in May 2005 with David Schwimmer starring opposite Saffron Burrows, Lesley Manville, Sara Powell and Catherine Tate at the Gielgud Theatre. In 2006, the play came stateside with Eric McCormack taking the lead Off-Broadway opposite Fran Drescher, Judy Reyes, Brooke Smith and Maura Tierney.

LaBute's plays include bash: latter-day plays, The Shape of Things, The Distance From Here, The Mercy Seat, Autobahn, This Is How It Goes and Wrecks. He is also the writer-director of the films "In the Company of Men," "Your Friends and Neighbors," "Nurse Betty," "Possession," "The Shape of Things" and "Wicker Man."

Tickets to Some Girl(s) at the Geffen, 10886 Le Conte Avenue in Los Angeles, CA, are available by calling (310) 208-5454. For more information visit GeffenPlayhouse.com.
