Michael Countryman will star in the title role in the Long Wharf Theatre's upcoming production of Donald Margulies' Shipwrecked! An Entertainment – The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (As Told by Himself).

Evan Cabnet directs the Margulies work, which will play the New Haven company's Stage II Feb. 13-March 16 with an official opening scheduled for Feb. 20.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Dinner With Friends penned this tale, which follows "an old man named Louis De Rougemont [who] finds that stardom is a fleeting thing," according to Long Wharf. "Gaining notoriety at the turn of the century for his fantastic tale of being shipwrecked, living on a remote island with his beautiful islander wife and learning to ride sea turtles, De Rougemont recalls his adventures wistfully even while his audience becomes increasingly more skeptical."

Countryman (Night Must Fall, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Trumpery, Dedication and Long Wharf's Down the Garden Paths) will lead a cast that also includes Angela Lin (Coram Boy, "The Jury") and Jeff Biehl (Misanthrope, Hellhouse).

Commissioned by South Coast Repertory, the work made its world premiere there in September 2007 with Gregory Itzin (of television's "24") in the lead role.

The design team for Shipwrecked! features Lee Savage (set), Jessica Wegener (costumes), Tyler Micholeau (lighting) and Drew Levy (sound). Bonnie Brady serves as stage manager.

The company currently presents Anna Deavere Smith's Let Me Down Easy (through Feb. 3), and the season will continue with Lydia Diamond's The Bluest Eye (March 28-April 20) and the Richard Rodgers-Oscar Hammerstein musical Carousel (May 7-June 1).

Tickets to Shipwrecked! at Long Wharf Theatre, 222 Sargent Drive in New Haven, CT, are available by calling (203) 787-4282 or online at longwharf.org.
