GLAAD Media Awards Nominees Include Some Men, Yank! and Speech & Debate

Nominees for the 19th Annual GLAAD Media Awards honoring "fair, accurate and inclusive" representations of gay individuals in the media were announced Jan. 20.

The annual awards honor the best in journalism, film, TV and theatre. This year's nominations include three theatre-related categories: Outstanding Los Angeles Theater; Outstanding New York Theater: Broadway and Off-Broadway; and Outstanding New York Theater: Off Off-Broadway.

Four GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies will be held: March 17 at the Marriott Marquis in New York, April 12 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Florida, April 26 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles and May 10 at the San Francisco Marriott in San Francisco. GLAAD will also recognize several Special Honorees at the various ceremonies: Brian Graden at the New York ceremony; Wilson Cruz in South Florida; Janet Jackson, Rufus Wainwright and Herb Ritts in Los Angeles; and Ilene Chaiken and David Mixner in San Francisco.

Julie Taymor's "Across the Universe" was also nominated in the Film - Wide Release category. Nominees in that category also include "The Jane Austen Book Club" and "Stardust."
