Neuwirth, Cannavale and O'Hare Will Close The Fire Dept's "At War" Series Feb. 4.

By Ernio Hernandez
31 Jan 2008

Bebe Neuwirth, Bobby Cannavale and Denis O'Hare will star in the final installment of The Fire Dept's "At War: American Playwrights Respond To Iraq" series on Feb. 4.

Erica Gould directs the work, which began Jan. 21 and played Mondays evenings at 7:30 PM at The Bleecker Street Theatre.

The cast has featured a rotating roster of stars: The Jan. 21 evening featured Janeane Garofalo, Josh Hamilton, Sarah Hayon, Amanda Marikar, Derek Phillips, David Strathairn and Daniel Sunjata, while the Jan. 28 performance boasted Garofalo, Phillips, Sunjata, Sarah Hayon, Denis O'Hare and Gloria Reuben.

Joining the aforementioned stars on Feb. 4 will be Jennifer Albano, Jessica Blank, Judith Hawking, Korey Jackson, Erik Jensen, Rock Kohli, Amanda Marikar, Steven Rattazzi, Jake Robards, Audrey Rosenberg, Jonathan Schaefer, Jeremy Schwartz, Jesse Teeters, Alok Tewari, Annie Torsiglieri, Michael Warner and Jeremy Webb.

The newly "expanded and updated version" of the Salon Series reading that took place in June, "At War: American Playwrights Respond To Iraq," is described in an announcement as "an evening of alternately moving, haunting, and funny material by noted and emerging American playwrights, woven together to present a kaleidoscope of views on the war."

Fire Dept artistic directors Jessica Blank, Erica Gould and Audrey Rosenberg have crafted the new stage project from writings penned by Blank and Erik Jensen, Bathsheba Doran, Cory Hinkle, Rajiv Joseph, Ryan Kelly, Peter Maloney, Jose Rivera, Lynn Rosen and Jonathan Schaefer.

The Fire Dept — initially inspired by The Exonerated and Brave New World: American Theatre Responds to 9/11 — "is made up of established and emerging writers, directors, actors and designers who have come together to create and produce work that cannot be replicated inside a television box or on a movie screen," according to an announcement.

Blank (The Exonerated), Gould (Brave New World) and Rosenberg (Elle) serve as artistic directors for the troupe.

Tickets for "At War: American Playwrights Respond to Iraq" at The Bleecker Street Theatre, 45 Bleecker (near Lafayette St.), are available by calling (212) 239-6200. For more information visit thefiredept.org.
