Works From Brown, McKayle and Tharpe Set for the Joyce

Choreography from the theatre world — including works by Twyla Tharp and Ronald K. Brown — will be presented at the Joyce Theater in February and March.
Ronald K. Brown — who previously choreographed Crowns and The English Only Restaurant Off-Broadway — and the award-winning Evidence/A Dance Company will present their annual season to the Joyce Feb. 12-17.
Blending African, modern, ballet and contemporary dance styles to "tell the stories of the African Diaspora," Brown and company will offer the New York premiere of One Shot, which was inspired by the legacy of African-American artist and photographer Charles "Teenie" Harris. Also slated is an evening of repertory work including Upside Down, which will be performed to live music by singer Wunmi.
Later this spring will be the Joyce debut of the Kansas City Ballet, March 11-16.
In honor of its 50th anniversary season, the Kansas City Ballet will present the world premiere Hey-Hay, Going to Kansas City — choreographed by Donald McKayle (It Ain't Nothing But the Blues, Sophisticated Ladies, Golden Boy) — as well as Twyla Tharp's Brahms Paganini, and First Position, created by Dancin' veteran and Kansas City Ballet artistic director William Whitener.
