Cromwell and Ryan Featured in Eno's Tragedy: a tragedy at Berkeley Rep

By Ernio Hernandez
05 Feb 2008

The cast and designers have been announced for the upcoming American premiere of Will Eno's Tragedy: a tragedy at Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

Berkeley associate artistic director Les Waters will stage the new work, which is scheduled to begin previews March 14 and open March 19 on the intimate Thrust Stage for a run through April 13.

From the pen of Thom Pain (based on nothing) comes this new "apocalyptic comedy," according to show notes. "The sun – despite its shining record – has finally set. Reporters descend in a flurry of questions and commentary, while the governor urges calm. It's a mournful and comic tale of everyday apocalypse, a savage look at all of us in the dark."

The cast of Tragedy: a tragedy will feature David Cromwell (The Coast of Utopia, Julius Caesar), Max Gordon Moore, Thomas Jay Ryan ("Henry Fool"), Marguerite Stimpson (Butley) and Danny Wolohan.

The design team includes Antje Ellermann (scenic), Meg Neville (costume), Matt Frey (lighting) and Cliff Caruthers (sound). The stage manager is Michael Suenkel.

Eno penned the 2005 Pulitzer Prize finalist Thom Pain (based on nothing) and Intermission. His Oh the Humanity! and other good intentions, a collection of short plays, recently played New York City's The Flea Theater starring Marisa Tomei.

The company next presents Carrie Fisher's Wishful Drinking (Feb. 15-March 30) and will conclude the season with Theatre de la Jeune Lune's Figaro (April 25-June 8).

Tickets to Tragedy: a tragedy at Berkeley Rep, 2025 Addison Street in Berkeley, CA, are available by calling (510) 647-2949 or toll free at (888) 4 BRT-tix. For more information, visit the website at berkeleyrep.org.
