Altar Boyz, 80's Prom and My First Time Recoup Investments

Three Off-Broadway works presented by producer Ken Davenport – Awesome 80's Prom, My First Time and Altar Boyz – announced Feb. 5 that they have all recouped their initial investments.
Davenport – who has penned and directed many of his projects – has become a fixture in the Off-Broadway community, with creative marketing of his productions and an online blog detailing the theatrical world from a producer's vantage point.
Awesome 80's Prom, an interactive theatre experience in the vein of Tony and Tina's Wedding, was the first of the aforementioned trio presented by Davenport in 2004. The production continues to play Manhattan's Webster Hall Saturday nights, and also boasts sit-down productions in Minneapolis, Baltimore and Chicago.
80's Prom was soon followed by the acclaimed 2005 Off-Broadway hit Altar Boyz, capitalized at $1 million, which has gone on to enjoy a national tour and numerous regional and international mountings.
Davenport commented on his most well-known project, stating "It took a tremendous amount of sacrifice and creativity both on and off stage in order for Altar Boyz to be able to make this announcement today. In addition to saying thank you to the nearly half a million theatergoers who have seen our show, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to everyone in the Altar Boyz family, including the entire creative team, our vendors, our staff, our faithful investors and especially Beverley Mac Keen and New World Stages."
Based on an idea by Davenport and produced in association with Robyn Goodman, Walt Grossman, Ruth Hendel, Sharon Karmazin, Matt Murphy and Mark Shacket, the story of a fictional Christian boy band is currently running at New World Stages.
Also at New World Stages is the latest addition to Davenport's theatrical endeavors, My First Time. The production, culled from stories of first sexual encounters, premiered Off-Broadway in 2007, recouping in roughly five months.
A national tour of My First Time is currently being booked; there is also interest for individual productions in Mexico, France, Spain, Australia, Israel, Korea, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
