Westport Readies Vigil With Busfield and Stenborg

Creative duties have been announced for the Westport Country Playhouse staging of Vigil starring Emmy winner Timothy Busfield and Tony-nominated actress Helen Stenborg.

Stephen DiMenna will direct the Westport production of Vigil, which is scheduled to begin performances Feb. 26 and continue through March 15.

The design team comprises Andromache Chalfant (set design), Ilona Somogyi (costume design), Ben Stanton (lighting design), and Daniel Baker (sound design). Cole Bonenberger is the production stage manager.

Vigil, penned by Morris Panych, "tells of a self-obsessed nephew summoned to the deathbed of his aunt to whom he hasn't spoken in 30 years," press notes state. Busfield plays Kemp, "for whom childhood was anything but normal. His list of early age traumas include: A Rumanian dwarf tutor, force-fed accordion lessons and a fear of the dark until age 18. Not wanting to revisit a moment of it, Kemp successfully has avoided all family contact. That is, until the day he was guilted into taking care of his dying aunt," portrayed by Stenborg.

Busfield is an Emmy Award winner for television's "thirtysomething." His theatrical credits include A Few Good Men and Brighton Beach Memoirs.

Helen Stenborg was Tony nominated for her work in Waiting in the Wings; her most recent Broadway appearance was the 2002 revival of The Crucible. Stenborg received a 2000 Drama Desk Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Tickets are available by calling (203) 227-4177 or by visiting www.westportplayhouse.org.
