Beginning Feb. 20, the Songwriters Hall of Fame presents a new series at Symphony Space in Manhattan that explores the creative process of songwriting.

Entitled Words About Music, the series of conversations and music, press notes state, provides "a unique look at some of America's most admired songwriters, lyricists and composers." The new series kicks off at 7 PM with Tony Award-winning Spring Awakening creators Steven Sater (book and lyrics) and Duncan Sheik (music).

Words About Music: An Evening with Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik features a conversation with the composing duo hosted by Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke. "The story of their careers and the making of Spring Awakening will come to life on the stage accompanied by a . . . string ensemble with piano and vocals," according to the Symphony Space website. Former Spring stars Lauren Pritchard and John Gallagher, Jr. are scheduled to perform.

Songwriters Hall of Fame chairman/CEO Hal David said in a previous statement, "The Words About Music series will offer an extraordinary and intimate view of the creative processes of some of our most prolific and well-known songwriters. It is highly fitting that we begin with Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik who represent a pioneering spirit in musical theatre."

Based on the 1891 expressionist play by Frank Wedekind, Spring Awakening won eight 2007 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Spring Awakening features direction by Michael Mayer, choreography by Bill T. Jones, book and lyrics by Steven Sater, and a score by Duncan Sheik.

Symphony Space is located in Manhattan at 2537 Broadway at 95th Street. Tickets, priced $20 (members) and $25 (non members), are available by visiting www.symphonyspace.org or by calling (212) 864-5400.
