The Vortex, with Felicity Kendal, Opens in London Feb. 26

Noel Coward's 1924 play The Vortex — starring Felicity Kendal and directed by Peter Hall — opens at the West End's Apollo Theatre Feb. 26 following previews that began Feb. 20.
Kendal, best known for her TV roles in such long-running series as "The Good Life," "The Mistress" and "Rosemary and Thyme," has had two long theatrical associations. For director Hall, she has starred in his productions of the world premiere of Amadeus and Othello, both co-starring Paul Scofield, at the National Theatre; Waste and The Seagull for the Peter Hall Company at the Old Vic; and An Absolute Turkey, Mind Millie For Me, Happy Days and, most recently, David Hare's Amy's View, all in the West End. She also had a sustained professional partnership with playwright Tom Stoppard, appearing in the original productions of his plays The Real Thing, Indian Ink and Arcadia, as well as a revival of Jumpers and his adaptation of On the Razzle.
Kendal plays a glamorous socialite, Florence Lancaster, in The Vortex, which chronicles the problematic relationship she has with her troubled son Nicky. He is played by young actor Dan Stevens, who has also already had a lengthy association with Hall, previously making his professional stage debut as Orlando in a 2004 production of As You Like It that Hall directed. Stevens subsequently appeared in Much Ado About Nothing and the West End revival of Coward's Hay Fever, playing Judi Dench's son, that were also directed by Hall. Stevens is also known for his roles in the television adaptations of Alan Hollinghurst's "The Line of Beauty" and Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility."
Also in the cast are Phoebe Nicholls, Annette Badland, Barry Stanton, Daniel Pirrie, Paul Ridley, Cressida Trew and Timothy Speyer.
