Jersey Boys Will Have Open-Ended Run in Chicago

By Andrew Gans
27 Feb 2008

The Chicago run of Jersey Boys at the LaSalle Bank Theatre is now open-ended.

The production, which began its run in the Windy City in October 2007, was initially a limited run. After several extensions, the Tony-winning musical will now play the LaSalle Bank Theatre "for as long as the public demands," according to a press statement.

Tickets are currently on sale through July 13.

The Chicago company currently features Drew Gehling as Bob Gaudio, Chicagoan Michael Ingersoll as Nick Massi, Jeremy Kushnier as Tommy DeVito and Jarrod Spector as Frankie Valli.

In a statement producer Michael David said, "On behalf of Jersey Boys, its entire cast and crew — once potential carpet-baggers turned happy, new residents — I want to express our profound appreciation for the overwhelming welcome we have received here, and for the consequent happiness at being able to now truly plant ourselves in Chicago at the LaSalle Bank Theatre for a long time to come."

Bob Gaudio, principal songwriter and original member of The Four Seasons and composer of Jersey Boys, added, "Chicago is one of those towns that make you want to go apartment hunting. Yea! It's cold but the people are hot. Who loves you, Chicago? We do!"

Produced by Dodger Theatricals, Joseph J. Grano, Tamara and Kevin Kinsella, Pelican Group with Latitude Link and Rick Steiner, Jersey Boys is presented in Chicago by Broadway In Chicago and TheatreDreams.

Jersey Boys was written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with music by Bob Gaudio and lyrics by Bob Crewe. Des McAnuff directed the production with choreography by Sergio Trujillo.

The musical, according to press notes, is "the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi . . . a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks who became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time. They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide - all before they were 30."

Jersey Boys premiered at the La Jolla Playhouse in October 2004 before arriving in November 2005 at Broadway's August Wilson Theatre, where it continues.

Tickets, priced $30-$95, are available by visiting Broadway in Chicago box offices (18 W. Monroe, 24 W. Randolph St. and 151 W. Randolph St.), through the Broadway in Chicago Ticket Line at (312) 902-1400, at all Ticketmaster ticket centers or online at Ticketmaster.com.
