Panaro, McArdle, Bohmer, Golden, Gibson and Daniels Will Honor Tim Rice in April Concert

By Andrew Gans
27 Feb 2008

Andrea McArdle

The UTEP Dinner Theatre's 25th anniversary concert will honor Tony and Academy Award-winning lyricist Tim Rice.

The April 12 concert at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, TX, will feature the UTEP Dinner Theatre Band, the UTEP Symphony Orchestra, a 150-voice choir and several Broadway favorites. Among those scheduled to interpret the lyrics of Rice — who will be in attendance — are Ron Bohmer, Nikki Renee Daniels, Deborah Gibson, Annie Golden, Andrea McArdle and Hugh Panaro. Show time is 8 PM.

Rice has been a long-time supporter of the dinner theatre, which is run by director Gregory Louis Taylor. In fact, on the theatre's official website, Rice writes, "I have known Greg Taylor for the past twenty five years both in a professional and personal capacity. He and his cohorts at the UTEP Dinner Theatre have presented several of my shows at the university and in fact premiered Blondel, Tycoon and Chess. Their production of Chess was the first to be produced after London and New York and went on to be performed by the UTEP company at the John F. Kennedy Center of the performing arts in 1989 as a winner in the American College Theatre Festival. I have seen the work of Greg and his staff personally in El Paso and have always been impressed by the standard of the performances."

With Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice penned the lyrics for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita. Rice also wrote the lyrics for such musicals as Blondel, Chess, The Lion King, King David and Aida. He also contributed additional lyrics to Beauty and the Beast.
