Reprise! to Present Carol Burnett in Conversation in May; Vicki Lewis Guests

By Andrew Gans
29 Feb 2008

Carol Burnett

Reprise! Broadway's Best will present a special evening with stage and screen star Carol Burnett in May.

The benefit evening, entitled Carol Burnett in Conversation, will be held May 12 at UCLA's Freud Playhouse. Philip Himberg — artistic director of the Sundance Theatre Program and the director of the upcoming Reprise! mounting of Flora, the Red Menace — will interview the beloved performer. Damn Yankees' Vicki Lewis will be the evening's special musical guest.

Carol Burnett in Conversation, according to press notes, "will 'remember' [Burnett's] extraordinary Broadway years and how the birth of [her] career was influenced by the great masters of the form: George Abbott (who directed her in Once Upon a Mattress and Fade Out, Fade In and was the original director of Flora), lyricists Betty Comden and Adolph Green, composers Jule Styne, Mary Rodgers and many others."

Carol Burnett has been seen on the Broadway stage in Once Upon a Mattress, Fade Out—Fade In, Moon Over Buffalo and Putting It Together; Burnett received Tony nominations for her performances in Mattress and Moon and was awarded a Special Tony Award in 1969. She spent 11 years on "The Carol Burnett Show" and has amassed six Emmy Awards for her work on that program and several other TV appearances. Burnett's feature film credits include "Pete 'N' Tillie," "The Four Seasons," "Annie" and "A Wedding." A production of Hollywood Arms, the play that she co-wrote with her late daughter Carrie Hamilton, played Broadway's Cort Theatre. Burnett is also a Kennedy Center Honoree.

Tickets, priced $95, are available by calling (310) 825-2101 or by visiting www.reprise.org. For VIP tickets call (310) 295-1171, ext. 25.
