Following a La Jolla Playhouse world premiere in November 2007, this new musical based on John Waters' film heads to Broadway. With a book by Hairspray librettists Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, Cry-Baby takes audiences to a 1954 Baltimore where everyone likes Ike, nobody likes communism and Wade "Cry-Baby" Walker is the coolest boy in town. He's a bad boy with a good cause — truth, justice and the pursuit of rock 'n' roll - who falls for a good girl who wants to be bad. A tale of Wayward youth, juvenile delinquents, sexual repression and bizarre rejects.
