The Missing Woman to Open Off-Broadway in April

Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc's The Missing Woman will make its North American premiere in April at the West End Theater.

Presented by Pan Asian Repertory Theatre in association with The Institute for Vietnamese Culture & Education, the production will begin previews April 2 with an official opening April 7 at 7:30 PM. The limited engagement will run through April 12.

Directed by the playwright, the cast will feature Thanh Loc (Painter), Hai Phuong (Wife), My Hang (Woman from Painting), Ngoc Dang (Lady General/Fox Woman), writer/director Ngoc (Mother), Le Leon and Tran Thuc Hanh (Poet).

In The Missing Woman, press notes state, "an artist's renderings of historical Vietnamese heroines materialize after the painter's wife leaves him for a better life. Through narrative, music and dance the painter journeys through legendary fables discovering the endurance and contributions Vietnamese women have made for their lovers and their country."

In a statement Pan Asian Rep artistic director Tisa Chang said, "We are thrilled to host the North American premiere of The Missing Woman at the Pan Asian Repertory Theatre. It's a rare moment for New York theatre to have a work that shows the beauty and mystery of Vietnamese culture."

The creative team will also include scenic and costume designer Kim B, lighting designer Joyce Liao and production coordinator Elis C. Arroyo.

Show times are Wednesday-Saturday at 7:30 PM with matinees Saturday and Sunday at 3 PM.
